Remembrance

Like communities around the Country, and the World, Shillington stops to remember the fallen on Remembrance Day.

To mark the centenary of the Great War, services were held for each of the twenty eight sons of the village who made the ultimate sacrifice.

This document records those services and the tributes made in memory of those we will not forget.

With thanks to Mr. John Catton for supplying the information and images.

The unveiling of the Shillington War Memorial 22 August 1922.
The prominent gentleman in the centre is believed to be Mr. G Townley, an MP. Vicar was Canon Langdale Postgate, and the man on the left is Harry Hillyard, the village blacksmith, who lived in a house beside the present garage and opposite the post office. He was also the local Registrar of births and deaths. To the right of Mr. G Townley is (with beard) the Reverend Gooby, the Congregational Minister.
